Wildcats Drop Match, Season Series to Mount Mercy

The Culver-Stockton College women's volleyball team suffered a 25-13, 25-17, 25-22 setback to Mount Mercy University Tuesday night at the Hennessey Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Wildcats, like their first match up with the Mustangs, got off to a slow start and the hosts took advantage. C-SC only had five kills and hit at a .026 percentage in the opening set.

C-SC improved over its attack percentage over the final two sets; however, it wasn't enough to keep Mount Mercy from sweeping the season series.

Abby Godwin paced the Wildcat attack with eight kills and a .226 hitting percentage. She had just one error on 31 attempts. Godwin nearly missed a double-double, finishing with nine digs. Zoe Irvin added seven terminations and Lauren Bloom garnered a team-best 13 set assists.

Defensively, the Wildcats recorded 53 total digs with Kyla Ellis totaling a team-best 19. C-SC amassed just six block assists in the match with Addie Force registering three and Ashleigh Brawley two.

The Wildcats, now 12-7 overall and 4-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is scheduled to play at Benedictine College this Friday, Oct. 11, in Atchison, Kan. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
