Women's Cross Country Breaks 16-Year Old School Record at Seminole Valley Stampede
After taking three weeks off, the Culver-Stockton women's cross country team continued where it left off, setting a new school team record, at the Seminole Valley Stampede at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday morning.
The Wildcats broke a 16-year team record in the 6-kilometer race, finishing with an overall team time of 2:14:28 to place 11th out to of the 15 teams that scored. C-SC recorded 325 points and finished behind top-finisher Lewis (Ill.) which garnered 66 points. The previous school record was 2:31:34 in 2008.
Three Wildcat runners set top 10 times in this particular distance in this race with Delaney Straus leading the charge with a school record time of 23:01.9, good for 13th place overall. Her time breaks the old mark of 24:49.7 by Sam Shipp in 2017.
In addition to Straus' heroics, senior Faith Younce ran the fifth-best time at this distance, finishing in a time of 25:45.5 and placing 75th overall. Emma Berry followed Younce with her 10-best school mark with a time of 27:10.2 and a 94th place finish.
Malia Carmack, running in her first race of the season, placed 105th overall in a time of 27:46.2, while Zoi Smith was 123rd overall with a time of 30:44.2. Morgan Keith finished 127th overall in a time of 31:17.,8
Caroline Lindsey was 129th overall with a time of 32:00.6, and Klaudia Blaszczyk rounded out the C-SC field with a 136th place finish in a time of 34:55.1.
The Wildcats return to action next Friday, Oct. 11, at the Indian Hills Invitational in Ottawa, Iowa. The women's race is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
