Women's Cross Country Sets Records at Heart Championships; Straus Qualifies for Nationals

The Culver-Stockton College women's cross country team set an overall team record and Delaney Straus broke her own school record during the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships Saturday morning at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Running on a wet and rainy day, the Wildcats posted a team time of 2:06.59, which was four minutes faster than the school mark of 2:10.08 set at the 2024 Heart Championships. That time was good enough for an 11th place finish in the event won by Benedictine (Kan.) College which finished in a time of 1:49.32.

Straus led the way individually, crushing her own 6-kilometer school mark by 56 seconds to qualify for the NAIA Championships for the second straight year. Straus posted a time of 22:05.2 and finished ninth overall. Her previous best was 23:01.9 set during the 2024 Heart Championships.

Samantha Stone, running in her only race of the year, followed Straus across the finish line in 83rd place with a time of 25:44.7, while Malia Carmack was 86th overall with a time of 25:57.6, which was a personal best.

Emma Berry and and Erin Peppler also competed for the Wildcats with Berry finishing 92nd in a time of 26:17.3, and Peppler finishing 99th in a time of 26:55.2, which was a personal best.

Straus will compete in the NAIA National Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 21, at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.
