Men's Basketball Get Back in Win Column with Victory over Park
The Culver-Stockton men's basketball team led for the final 30 minutes, 53 seconds in ending a six-game losing streak with an 86-70 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Park University Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.
In addition to the six-game losing streak, the victory also ended a 13 game losing skid against Heart of America opponents, dating back to last season. The Wildcats had also lost six straight games at Charles Field House and 11 home conference games before the victory over the Pirates.
The Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes in building a 42-33 halftime advantage. C-SC followed that up by shooting 54 percent in the second half to end at 54 percent overall.
Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats with Damont Hanton leading the way with 20 points, which was a season-high. Damar Jenkins chipped in with 16 markers while Amir Plair totaled 14 points and Kamren Wires added 11 points.
C-SC out-rebounded the Pirates 43-37 with Alex Jackson IV grabbing a career-high 20 caroms to lead the way. Jackson had four offensive rebounds to go along with 16 defensive rebounds. Plair and Hanton contributed six caroms each.
The Wildcats also tied their season high with 18 assists in the victory. Wires and Jackson totaled four helpers each.
C-SC will try to make it two straight victories this Wednesday, Jan. 21, when it travels to Dubuque, Iowa, to face Clarke University. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
