Men's Soccer Draws with No. 5 William Penn to Start Conference Play
The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team battled fifth-ranked William Penn University to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Statesmen outshoot the Wildcats 11-3, C-SC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first four minutes of the second half when a Wildcat sprinting toward the goal was pulled down in the penalty area.
Irgen Hasanaj stepped up and was able to beat WPU goalkeeper Lewis McNabb even though it appeared McNabb got a piece of it as it went by.
The Statesmen returned the favor two minutes later when the Wildcats were called for foul in the penalty area resulting in a penalty kick that tied the game.
The Statesmen outshot the hosts 18-13 overall, but the Wildcats held a 10-7 edge in the second half. C-SC also put eight shots on goal compared to just seven for the Statesmen. Both teams registered five corner kicks each. C-SC goalkeeper Ricardo Fischbach stopped six shots to improve to 1-1-3 on the season.
The Wildcats (1-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the Heart) returns to the Poulton Stadium pitch this Wednesday, Sept. 10, against Park University. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
