Men's Soccer Shut Out in Second Half of Loss to Mount Mercy
Mount Mercy University scored two second half goals to hand the Culver-Stockton men's soccer team a 3-1 loss at Ellison Poulton Stadium Wednesday night.
The Wildcats, who are winless in their last seven games (0-4-3), falls to 1-4-3 overall and 0-3-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Mount Mercy improves to 6-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Heart.
The Mustangs scored the first goal of the game on their only shot of the first half in the fourth minute.
C-SC answered in 32nd minute when Koya Nakamura picked up a loose ball at the top of the penalty area and chipped a shot over the head of the Mustang goalkeeper.
The score stayed that way until the 69th minute when the Mustangs got behind the defense to score the go-ahead goal. Mount Mercy added an insurance goal in the five minutes later in the 74th minute.
C-SC, which had four shots in each half, had two good opportunities in the final 45 minutes. The first came from Irgen Hasanaj, who found himself alone at the six-yard line. Hasanaj couldn't get a solid attempt and the Mustang goalkeeper made the save,
The second opportunity came from Ethan Wilkinson-Felgate who came in from the right wing and put a decent shot on goal.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play this Saturday, Sept. 20, at nationally-ranked Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Gregg-Mitchell Field.
