Men's Soccer Scores Twice in Final 10 Minutes to Earn Heart Victory
The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team scored twice in the final 10 minutes to claim a 2-1 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over Graceland University Wednesday night at Poulton Stadium.
After an uneventful first half that saw Graceland outshoot the Wildcats 7-4 in a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Yellowjackets finally broke through in the 71st minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats got the equalizer when a long shot from about 35 yards hit the cross bar and fell straight down in front of the net. C-SC's Irgen Hasanaj dove and headed the ball into the net for the game-tying goal in the 83rd minute.
C-SC then grabbed the lead in the 88th minute when Ethan Wilkinson-Felgate made a long run down the right side before striking a powerful shot just under the crossbar and into the net for his fourth goal of the year.
Graceland had one good opportunity in the waning seconds but was turned aside by Ricardo Fischbach who made one of his five saves in the game. Those saves preserved the first ever on-field conference victory for Head Coach Tyler Hamilton.
Each team recorded 13 shots overall in the game with the Wildcats holding a 9-6 edge of shots in frame. The Yellowjackets held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks, including 4-0 in the second half.
The Wildcats are scheduled to return to action this Saturday, Oct. 18, against Benedictine College. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Poulton Stadium.
