Men's Volleyball Can't Hold 2-0 Lead; Fall to 1-5 in Five Set Matches

The Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team fell to 1-5 in five set matches this season with a 20-25-20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 15-9 to Ottawa University (Kan.) Friday night at Charles Field House in Canton.

The loss was the second five-set loss to Ottawa this month and the second time in a week the Wildcats won the first two sets only to drop the final three sets and the match. C-SC fell to Morningside last Friday, March 20, after winning the first two sets.

In the latest loss, the Wildcats and Braves were neck-in-neck in the final set when a kill by Rio Victor tied the set at 9-9. However, the Braves reeled of six straight points beginning with a kill from Petar Lazic. Three attack errors and two receive errors by the Wildcats later and the Braves were celebrating another five-set victory.

Four Wildcats reached double figures in kills with Cooper Varner leading the way with 17 terminations. Henry Reeves and Zach Kowalewicz recorded 12 kills each, while Victor garnered 11 terminations.

Matt Reese and Kirvan Hughes combined for 56 of the 62 set assists with Reese contributing a team-best 33 assists. Varner and Cikeng Lee tallied two service aces each.

Defensively, Lee was the only player from either team top reach double figures in digs, finishing with 11. The Wildcats also had nine team blocks with Kowalewicz leading the way with six block assists.

C-SC is scheduled to host Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 28, at Charles Field House. The Wildcats will celebrate senior day and recognize six senior from the 2025-26 team. Firat serve is slated for 1 p.m.
