Vetter Leads Way as Softball Claims Two Victories
The Culver-Stockton softball team began a two-day trip to the Rosemont Classic in Rosemont, Ill, with two victories Friday night at the Rosemont Dome.
The Wildcats began the day by plating single runs in the first and the fifth inning of a 2-1 victory over Indiana Wesleyan University. C-SC concluded the night with an 11-2, six-inning decision over the Indiana University-South Bend.
Samantha Vetter was the offensive star of the day for the Wildcats, driving in both runs in the first-game victory, while going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple in the nightcap.
In the opener, Vetter hit a sacrifice fly to score Leila Lpoez in the first inning, and then delivered a run-scoring single to plate Aleki Ulu in the fifth inning to give the Wildcats some insurance. Ryley Pecina collected three of the Wildcats' seven total hits in the game.
Cameryn Woodall earned the victory in the circle, scattering six hits and one unearned run. Woodall didn't walk a batter and struck out two.
In game two, Vetter complementted her big day at the plate by scoring three runs and ring in another as the Wildcats run-ruled the Titans. Ulu and Sophie Meyer each collected two hits and registered three runs batted in each, while Cierra Bush and Kataleena Hunt garnered two RBI.
C-SC banged out 14 hits and took advantage of two Titan errors and were issued two walks.
Sophie Stuart pitched six innings, allowing 10 hits, but only two earned runs. She walked one and struck out one in the game.
The Wildcats (4-4) are scheduled to play two more games Saturday beginning with a game against Mount Mary University (Wis.) at 12:30 p.m. and Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at 2:30 p.m.
