Stuart's Four-Hitter Helps Wildcats Earn Split with Briar Cliff
Sophie Stuart pitched a four-hit shutout as the Culver-Stockton softball team salvaged a split with Briar Cliff (Iowa) with a 9-0, five inning victory in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon in Branson, Mo. Briar Cliff captured the first game 5-0.
Stuart earned her fifth victory in seven decisions and second shutout of the season after allowing four singles while waling three and striking out four in a complete game victory.
Stuart was aided by the Wildcat offense, which clubbed 10 base hits, including four doubles, and three Charger errors.
C-SC jumped out in front in the opening inning when Leila Lopez drilled the first of her two doubles to score two runs. The Wildcats added seven runs in the fourth inning, which included a two-run double by Cierra Bush.
Lopez and Sophie Meyer registered two hits each to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Bush and and Aleki Ulu scored two runs apiece.
In the opener, the Wildcats were limited to five hits by by Charger hurler Aubrey White. Ryley Pecina collected two of the five hits to lead C-SC. Kataleena Hunt added a double, her 43rd career double, which places her fifth on the school's all-time list. Hunt needs just four more doubles to surpass Cassie Burris '19 for the all-time lead.
The Wildcats (10-6) are off on Wednesday before resuming play Thursday with two more games in Branson. C-SC plays Evangel (Mo.) at 1 p.m. and Stephens (Mo.) at 6 p.m.
