Softball Snaps Six-Game Losing Skid with Sweep over Missouri Valley

The Culver-Stockton softball team snapped a six-game losing streak and remained perfect at home with a doubleheader sweep over Missouri Valley College Saturday afternoon at Himsl Field.

The Wildcats plated four runs in the first inning and four more in the fifth inning en route to a 9-1 victory in the opener. In the nightcap, C-SC scored six runs in the first two innings and went on to post a 7-3 victory to earn the sweep.

In game one, Cierra Bush paced the Wildcat attack by going 3-for-3 with with a double and two runs batted in. Four other players had two hits, including Samantha Vetter who had a two=run homer.

Joining Vetter in the two-hit club was Payton Todd, who was 2-for-4, Ryley Pecina, who was 2-for-4 wirh a RBI and a runs scored, and Aleki Ulu, who had two hits and a run scored.

Cabria Childers was the beneficiary in the circle, earning the complete game victory. Childers scattered five hits, allowed one run while walking two and striking out two.

In the second game, Ulu and Leila Lopez each registered three hits in the game as the Wildcats collected 15 total hits. Ulu score two runs while Lopez recorded a RBI and a runs scored. 

Kataleena Hunt chipped in with two hits, including another double, and two runs batted in, while Todd and Sophie Meyer also collected two hits each.

Sophie Stuart garnered the complete game victory as she held the Vikings to eight hits and three runs (one earned). Stuart did not walk a batter and struck out three.

The Wildcats will return to Himsl Field on Sunday, March 29, to battle Grand View University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference twinbill. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
